The Importance of Regular Dental Visits for Children with Braces

July 25th, 2019

Having healthy teeth and gums is vital to having a healthy life and body. This is critical for children, because what happens early in life will ultimately determine future outcomes as the child develops. As a parent, you should emphasize proper dental care and examinations on a routine basis to ensure that your child receives the best care possible at all times.
It is not something that most of us think about daily, but our teeth and gums are daily stretched, worked, and exposed to various elements. The amount of different food and drink that passes through our mouths, the amount of chewing that we have to do to properly digest it; and the wear and tear that all of these things have on our oral system are quite extraordinary. Given the conditions under which our mouths must operate to allow us to eat, speak with people, breathe air, drink water, etc...we must do our part to ensure that it stays healthy and functional.
The best way to keep up your child's oral hygiene is to make regular visits to your general family dentist. A regular visit to the dentist for a check-up can prevent your child from potentially experiencing a painful procedure later on. A regular dental examination can identify any irregularities in their oral system and immediately address the issue. A family dentist can also spot signs of diabetes, oral cancer, or any other illnesses that may threaten not just their dental health but their very life. Such a regular visit can also result in your getting counseling and advice as a parent on how best to adjust or continue with their brushing and normal hygiene practices in a way that keeps up their health most efficiently.

Why Choose Invisalign over Braces?

July 10th, 2019

Dental braces are mostly perceived as a procedure for younger people, however its never too late for an adult to consider straightening their teeth.

Most people worry about how they will look with braces. However, Invisalign uses virtually invisible, removable and comfortable aligners that are made with 3D computer imaging software and are proven effective at straightening teeth in relatively short periods of time.

Why should I use Invisalign, you may ask? Well, its a clear and transparent aligner; which means that you can go about your day to day without most people ever knowing that you have aligners in. So its a lot more comfortable for people who may be self-conscious about wearing braces. Don't worry about it! Invisalign aligners are designed so that you don't have to feel awkward wearing them.

They are also removable, which makes it much easier to eat and drink the things you enjoy without worrying about things getting stuck in the braces. This makes them a lot more comfortable than traditional braces, which improves your overall experience throughout the straightening process. Being able to remove the aligners is a huge benefit that traditional methods do not provide.

Our virtual treatment plan enables you to see what your teeth will look like after the alignment is completed. So you'll have a positive goal to work towards! The average timeline is 9-15 months, depending on the severity of your tooth alignment.

If you have questions about this process, please call us to schedule a visit with our Invisalign specialists. We'll review everything in detail and develop a customized treatment plan to fit your lifestyle.

Meet one of our Orthodontists Dr. Ziehmer!

November 9th, 2017

My name is Richard Ziehmer and I am currently living in Summerfield, N.C. with my lovely wife, Gina and our beautiful daughter, Zia.  Together, we are pleased to make your acquaintance.  I was born and raised in Tucson, AZ.  Growing up, I was always very active in football and baseball, and I also enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting and more specifically, archery hunting.  To say that I am passionate about archery hunting is an understatement…it is one of the many loves of my life.  My favorite adventure in the archery hunting world is to Elk hunt.  In my opinion there is nothing better than chasing after huge bulls in the crisp, cool, clean air of the mountains in central Arizona and New Mexico.  And when I’m not hunting Elk during September you can be sure I will be attempting to watch as many college football games as humanly possible.  Speaking of football, did I mention that I am a huge Notre Dame Football fan?  Come Saturdays during the fall, you can find me cheering on the Fighting Irish!

Gina did most of her growing up in Central Florida, where her family still remains.  Gina was also active in sports and dance and thoroughly enjoys cooking fine Italian foods and baking delicious sweet treats.  Come Saturday’s during the fall, you can find her trying to steal the T.V. remote to change the station to the Florida Gators, her alma mater.

After graduating with a degree in Journalism from The University of Florida, Gina worked in Florida and North Carolina before accepting a TV News Anchor position in Tucson in 2006.  Gina and I met through a mutual acquaintance in 2009, were engaged a short time after and were married in October of 2011.

I attended the University of Arizona for undergraduate studies, Indiana University for dental school and did my orthodontic residency at Saint Louis University.  After graduating from Saint Louis in December 2005, I decided to go back to my hometown of Tucson to start practicing.  In addition to working for several corporate practices, I opened up my own office, Grinz PLC (Grin and the Z for Ziehmer) in February 2007.  Since then, Grinz has grown significantly, and it is one of the largest practices in Southern Arizona.  We have built a stellar reputation for offering exceptional orthodontic care in a fun and happy environment, and we’re always striving to improve our patient and parent experience.

Although life and practicing in Tucson were both awesome, Gina and I decided it was time for a change.  So after being blessed with the birth of our daughter, Zia, and Gina’s burning desire to return to the Tar Heel state we were fortunate enough to purchase Dr. James Rich’s practice in Asheboro and Dr. Jerry Clark’s practice in Greensboro in October 2015.    Both doctors had impeccable reputations for providing exceptional orthodontic care and were pillars throughout their communities.  Gina and I wanted nothing more than to carry on those traditions as well as add some practice components to Asheboro and Greensboro that were unique and proven to be effective in the Tucson office.

So far, living in North Carolina has been a wonderful experience!  Our daughter Zia is almost 2 years old now and continues to amaze Gina and me on a daily basis with her unique ability to climb any and everything within sight!   Both Greensboro and Asheboro communities have welcomed us with open arms and we have definitely made some lifelong friends.  Practicing Orthodontics in North Carolina has been equally satisfying as both Asheboro and Greensboro locations continue to grow.  And we recently added our newest Greensboro office located off Battleground and Horse Pen Creek.  North Carolina, however, is not the only state where Grinz is excelling.  The original Tucson location continues to thrive and we just celebrated Dr. Freytag’s one year anniversary on May 16, 2017.  We are expecting great things from her and are proud to call her a Grinz Partner!

Thanks so much for trusting your family and friends orthodontic needs to the doctors and staff at Grinz Orthodontics…we promise to do everything we can to make your experience a great one!
